A Guide To Choosing An Engagement Ring

Choosing an engagement ring is a huge step in your relationship. Whether you’re the one proposing and choosing your own ring or, you and your partner are choosing it together, it is important to get the perfect diamond engagement ring for the big day. Your chosen ring is the first step of your commitment and the next chapter in your lives together.

Engagement Ring Trends For 2014

There are a number of trends which are popular right now, ranging from classic settings to more contemporary designs. Take a look at the top trends for 2014 and see whether any catch your eye.

  1. Halo Style – This shape of ring has a large round cut diamond in the centre, with a beautiful circle of smaller diamonds circling it. This creates the illusion of a bigger diamond, and echoes classic styles from the 1940’s. This design is great for those who want a brilliant diamond that will sparkle at them every day of their married life, and adds lots of glitter and glamour to your life.
  2. Split-Shank – These engagement rings are one single, large stone, set upon a band which splits in two. This split can either be very obvious, or start near the base of the band, or it can sit close to the base of the stone and give a little shape and definition. These rings are often for those who are more unconventional or love the shape of a unique band.
  3. Classic Solitaire – The classic engagement ring, the solitaire is characterised by a single stone sat upon a band. Whilst these may seem simple, they are still very popular, although some mix up the idea with a different colour stone. Classic and elegant this will never go out of style.
  4. Antique Style – Not to be confused with the retro styles from the 1940’s or after, antique refers to anything from before the 1930’s, or at least a design based off shapes from that era. An antique engagement ring is often much more decorative than a modern ring, placing less emphasis on the stone and more in the shaping of the metalwork.
