Top tips for buying your diamond engagement ring

Diamond rings are a symbol of you and your partner’s unending love. The diamond represents the permanence of your feelings and the ring, which has no beginning or end, represents no end to your love. It is, therefore, important to make sure you purchase the perfect ring.

How Do You Purchase The Right Ring?

The first thing you need to do before purchasing a diamond ring is to consider how much you are willing to pay. There is no set price on diamond rings which means you can pay however much you’re comfortable with.

The next thing you need to think about is the type of metal that you want to buy. Most advise that you look at your partner’s jewellery collection to see which metal they typically buy as this is most likely to be their preferred metal type. There is a variety of metal types used in the manufacturing of diamond rings, such as, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, platinum, palladium and silver, and we use all of these metals to create our pieces at La Vivion. It is also important to think about what type of metal you want to purchase as this will factor into your budget, as the price varies for the type of metal that you want.

Now that you have the type of band you want to purchase in mind you need to think about the rock. The two main details you need to know before you purchase the ring is the diamond colour and the diamond clarity. The diamond colour and clarity have a grading scale so you can decide which one is right for you.

The diamond colour grades begin with grade D. This means the diamond is an exceptional white. It is also the most expensive. The lowest grade that you want for your ring is grade J, which is slightly tinted yellow; anything below this is not what you want for your diamond ring.

The grades for the diamond clarity begin with FL to IF- WS1-WS2-VS1WS2-VS1-VS2-S11 and finally S12. FL means that the diamond is flawless, and is naturally going to be the one that sets you back the most. If you go further down the scale the diamond will contain more inclusions. The black dots or tiny lines that appear in a diamond are known as inclusions. These cannot be seen by the human eye, however, but they are cheaper than flawless diamonds.

The final thing you need to think about before purchasing a diamond engagement ring is the shape of the stone and the design of the ring. There is no right design to pick as this is based on what you think your partner would love and their individual style.
