What does the eternity ring mean?

The eternity ring represents enduring love. It is a symbol of eternal devotion and unending love, as the ring has no beginning or end.

What Does It Mean To Give An Eternity Ring?

The eternity ring can be traced as far back as Ancient Egypt. Archaeologists have unearthed several representations of eternity rings in Ancient Egypt. These were typically made of bone, horn, beads or stone. The Ancient Egyptians believed, as we do now, that the ring represented a timeless state of love throughout human lifetime because the ring is continuous with no break to signify an end.

An eternity ring is traditionally given as a way of reminding your partner of your undying love. Many give a diamond eternity ring on their 60th anniversary, as this is known as the diamond anniversary. Others will present their partner with an eternity ring on a chosen anniversary of their own.

The eternity ring is usually worn on the left hand with the wedding and engagement rings but this can be cumbersome, so many make the choice to wear their eternity rings on a different finger. They may also decide to do this because their ring does not match their wedding or engagement ring so they decide to wear the eternity band separately.

An eternity ring can be set or encrusted with a variety of gemstones, such as diamond, ruby, sapphire, amethyst, quartz and zircon. These stones are a symbol of love and loyalty.

The fact that eternity rings can be set with a range of different gemstones mean that these rings are not just given to partners on their anniversary, but are presented on special occasions, such as to celebrate the birth of a child. Eternity rings can be set with the child’s birthstones; a very popular choice amongst new parents!

There are two types of eternity rings known as the full eternity ring and the half eternity ring. The full ring is set with an endless ring of stones around the band. It is also seen as a classic, though it is more expensive than a half eternity ring. The half ring is set with your choice of stone only halfway around the band. This ring is a more practical choice than a full-eternity ring, the half eternity ring can have its band easily adjusted due to it only having stones halfway round.  It is also seen as more comfortable than the full eternity-ring which can be unwieldy with stones around the whole band.
