Caring For Your Diamond

123a6b1d0844Diamond is one of the hardest substances on earth, so it comes as no surprise that diamond rings are incredibly durable. However, despite their hardness, they are not completely indestructible. It is true that they can only be polished or cut with another diamond. However, a harder blow can actually scratch the surface and make the diamond chip.

To help you avoid any possible damage and enjoy the brilliance of your precious stone in your ring for longer, we offer a few expert techniques that will help you keep your diamonds looking beautiful.

How To Properly Care For Your Diamond Rings

The very first thing we always tell our customers is to store their diamond rings apart from other jewellery pieces. We recommend doing this because otherwise you risk of giving your ring or other jewellery scratches. A jewellery box with separate fabric-lined compartments is a great place to store your diamond rings.

Keep your ring brilliant and sparkling by cleaning it to remove any skin oil, dirt, and lotions – all the things that may form a film on the precious stone and make it look cloudy. An easy technique is to soak your diamond ring in some warm water mixed with a mild dishwashing liquid. Follow up with a light scrub using a soft toothbrush. Be sure to clean the back of the setting, as dirt tends to accumulate there.

If you want to remove stubborn dirt from your diamond ring, you can soak it in equal parts cold water and ammonia for half an hour. Afterwards, scrub lightly with a toothbrush and let the ring air-dry. However, if you do not have the time to clean your diamond rings at home, it is always a good idea to bring them to a professional jeweller, who will polish your rings. In addition to polishing, the jeweller will also inspect your ring to check whether the setting is secure and fasten the claws and prongs, if needed.

Simple Tips To Maintain The Beauty Of Your Diamond Rings

Here are few other key tips to keep your diamonds looking gorgeous:

  • Handle your diamond rings with care and don’t wear them when in a swimming pool or while doing the washing up. The water can make your fingers shrink and the ring might slip.

  • Avoid doing rough work while wearing your diamond rings.

  • Clean the rings regularly to avoid dirt building up, which can cause damage to the colouring of the prongs.

  • Avoid harsh cleaning agents as they can cause damage to the metals and erode them, which can damage the prongs and loosen them.

  • Visit a jeweller once a year to have your diamond rings inspected. A jeweller will also expertly polish them for more shine.

Follow our simple guidelines and your diamond rings will retain their beauty and sparkle for years to come. If you have noticed any scratches or if the diamonds have lost their radiance, bring them to a jeweller and he will polish them to make them look like new again.
